Divine!

I've been working on more watercolours this week. I actuality started this drawing way back some time last year. I had drawn out the grid sketch all ready for starting the final piece but just couldn't get the markers to work right for it. Suddenly remembered it this week and thought maybe watercolours would work?

In case you don't know Divine was a famous drag actor in John Waters films. sadly since passed away.

I'm not at all happy with this painting, the hair drove me mad but I posting to keep a record of my progress. Hopefully I will get better in time! I think I need to follow the rule "less in more" with watercolours, so very different to working with markers.

I also draw a silly cartoon version of him from the Pink flamingos film. I really should invest in a watercolour sketchbook as my moleskine paper doesn't really like it.

Working in watercolour makes a nice change but makes me realise how much I like the control of maker pens.

The Life Aquatic

Here's the watercolour I promised in the last entry. I am new to using watercolours so this was a nice learning experience. I think I might of built the colour up too much in places and maybe just a wash of colour would have been better but I'll keep that in mind for next time.
I used my little Winsor & Newton pocket box of 12 half pans and watercolour pencils, I found working with the pencils much easier. I wouldn't mind trying to paint a more realistic subject next time.
As usual I had a difficult time trying to match up the colours in photoshop, this was the best I could do but the background is much more of a turquoise colour.

Here's something a little extra before I go. I found one of my old sketchbooks/art folder from when I was 9 years old and filmed a little movie of me looking through it.

Beautiful Bodies

Some more sketchbook scans, I hope you're not getting too bored of these now ;)
Focusing on different body parts and poses. Feel free to recommend anything else I could draw as I'm always after ideas.

Friday Fanart

Something a little different for you all today. I decided to join in with the lovely Erin Hunting and do some Friday fan art.
I love Erin's art work and her take on famous cartoon characters are always fun. Check out her blog here, http://erinhuntingart.blogspot.co.uk/ or follow her on tumblr http://erinhunting.tumblr.com/ In fact do both!

Well here's my attempt of Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) in The Life Aquatic. I've only recently watched Wes Anderson's films but I am hooked. I definitely recommend you give them a go.

This is just a straight scan from my moleskine, hence the poor quality. It's the one thing that really bugs about the moleskine paper, that when I use a rubber it takes off the cream/yellow and leave a bright white mark.
I plan to do a coloured digital version of it at some point and hopefully do some more characters from his films.
