Christmas time

I know its a little late but I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas! It's been a bit of a strange Christmas this year. And had some very sad news over the holiday. But planning on visiting my family on Monday so that should be nice.

My lovely tree on Christmas morning

wii dance
ok maybe we take Wii dance on broadway game a little too seriously ;) I brought it for Pete as he loves musicals.

I got some great books for Christmas!

V for Vendetta by Alan Moore
The Complete MAUS by Art Spiegelman
The Grand Design by Stephen Hawking
Vive La Revolution by Mark Steel
The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick
Slaughter House Five by Kurt Vonnegut
Animal Farm: A Fairy Story by George Orwell

I've started reading V for Vendetta already and am enjoying it, I need to slow down or I'll finish it too quickly hehe.I had heard that if was very different from the film, which I also got for xmas. I'm glad its different as I tend to get bored reading books if I've seen the film version already.

Im planning on doing a new year post over the coming week and maybe a list of all the books I've read this year. But till then I will leave you with a picture of my cat...

Suki could smell her catnip toy under the tree

Snow days

It's been snowing! It was so heavy on wednesday that Pete had to work from home as London does come to a standstill with snow fall. I never saw snow much back in poole being a seaside town, so I get very excited!
To celebrate all this snowy goodness I made some snowman tree hangers :)

Like with the gingerbread men they are back with red or green glitter felt depending on the scarf colour.
Im rather pleased with how these ones turned out, no tricky paint to go wrong! hehe.
I wish I had picked up more than just one sheet of each glitter felt colour as I would like to make more.

Apart from sewing and freezing ;) I started reading "The Odyssey - Homer" I thought that I would find it very hard going but I am really enjoying it! Ok I admit the Greek names are tricky to pronounce but I was really surprised how drawn into the story I am.

Well thats me done for today, I shall leave you with a snowy picture.

I bloody love snow!

Yummy gingerbred men!

My gingerbread men are all finished and ready to be popped on the tree or given to special people. although I have to admit I do like where I've hung them for this photo. I had a real problem with the paint and almost wish I had just sewn the white icing details on now. I thought the paint would be like some I've used in the past that gets more puffy as it dries. This paint however did not and I had to reapply it more thickly for the effect I wanted. Couldn't resist using the glitter felt I picked up back in Poole. So they are a mix of green or red glitter backs corresponding to their buttons.

sorry about the poor photo, I think my camera is on its last legs. It doesn't like to focus and has now started turning its self off :(
If I get time I will make some more decorations, snowmen and maybe Christmas trees but right now I need to carry on with sewing my friends Christmas present.

I'll leave you with a picture of my gorgeous Suki looking very snug and sleepy in my unmade bed. I think she has right idea, its far too cold to be up and about today!

Crafty goodness

Back from visiting my family loaded with lots of craft goodies! Poole has much better craft shops than croydon.

I got some blue and red fleece from the "cut offs" bin in fabricland for £1.30 each! I do love a bargin. also picked up some glitter felt that was only 35p a sheet, its £1.25 a sheet at hobbycraft!

As i dont have any finished work to show you, heres some christmas decorations in the making. I think I might try out some puffy paint for the icing on the gingerbread men.

Right I better get sewing!

Jeff the spook monster

I know, I know its a little late now for this but I did make Jeff in time for Halloween, But being me I never got round to posting it. Sorry once more for the lack of updates, again down to being poorly.

Found this spooky little critter scurrying around that flat on halloween. He goes by the name of Jeff....yes Pete named him ;)

Im pleased with how he turned out even though the spiderweb fabric was such a pain to work with. It kept fraying and in the end i had to glue it onto some orange felt, but I think that worked out best for the making of the wings.
My friend liked him so much that I am making her a special spooky critter of her own for christmas. I am just waiting for the fabric to arrive.

Talking of christmas, I havent done any crimbo themed crafts yet. I really dont know if I will this year as I have so much else to make. I also have lots of craft projects in mind that will have to wait to the new year.
Watching Kirstie's homemade home always puts me in a crafting mood :)

I have been doing a lot of reading though! "schrodinger's kittens and the Search for Reality by John Gribbin" I really loved this book. It goes over a lot of what I have already read on quantum physics but uses such good analogies to describe theories that made it a very enjoyable read. "Talking with serial killers by Christopher Berry-Dee" Pete bought it me to cheer me up while poorly in bed, I have rather morbid intrests hehe. I enjoyed it but theres something about the way the author wrote that I didnt like. I cant really put my finger on it, but maybe because it was too sensational and use of words like "evil" and "monster" all the time got annoying. Also there wasnt much talking with the serial killers?! I want to read more on criminal profiling, neurological and the mental health of what makes a serial killer.
And at the moment I am reading "Das Reich:The March of the 2nd Panzer Division Through France, 1944 by Max Hastings"

Im going for a famaily home visit new week for my dads 50th so I doubt I will get much arty stuff for while, but i will leave you with another picture of my monsters!

best of friends

This is Halloween

Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?

Ghost cupcakes!

These are my second attempt at making some halloween crochet cupcakes, the first batch came out wrong :/ im much happier with these ones. I am middle of making the Halloween crumblin, i was hoping to get it finished for tomorrow but im still super weary.

A chance to show off my spooky toys :D
my first batch on halloween cupcakes bleh. Hello Kitty's pumpkin suit rules though! :D

I finished reading hannibal, i didnt know it had a different ending to the film version. I dont really like how it ended in the book. Anyone else read it? what are your thoughts?
Im now reading "Marilyn Manson -The Long Hard Road Out of Hell" takes me back to my mini mosher days hehe.

Hope you all have a super spooky day tomorrow!

I suck :P

Sorry for the lack of updates again, ive been busy will appointments & being ill blurg!
I have been working of Halloween cupcakes but they did not turn out at all how i wanted. I'm hoping to give them another go with adding some spooky confetti for sprinkles. I will take pictures of my first batch but i keep forgetting to do while the light is right, gloomy flat!

I have just ordered some black faux fur & orange spider web frabic that i am going to turn into a Halloween version of a Crumblin :D I will have to get ordering fabric for christmas presents soon as well.
As i have nothing crafty to show you, here is my awesome new jumper!

I need to get a cheesy christmas jumper now!

As for reading i am in the middle of two books, "Dynamic of Destruction: Culture and Mass Killing in the First World War Making of the Modern World-Alan Kramer" and "Hannibal-Thomas Harris"

sewing tapirs

I wanted to try something a little different with my Tapirs and I've had this idea in my head for yonks now. Overall im happy with how it turned out but next time i think i'll try different stitches and darker thread.
Im not sure how to mount this either, maybe back it onto some card or try and get hold of those cross stitch frames but in a sqaure shape instead of the circle ones.

This is all i have got up to this week as Pete has been on holiday, geeking out watching stargate together while i sew has been nice :)

Monday, 4 October 2010

I asked Pete what I should draw the other night in bed and as his head is filled with all things cute he told me to draw tapirs (of course) at the seaside.

And that gave me the idea for a seasonal tapir playing in the autumn leaves

Though I had a lot of trouble trying to get this to scan nicely, its still not right but i give up! the real picture is slightly different colours and not at all grainy! I want to show off my sexy marker blending skills hehe i was so pleased with how this one came out in person so its really annoying i cant show it looking the same.
I want to do some more happy tapir seasons themed drawings, puddle splashing! Also want to do some halloween art.

Pete and the Tapir

I decided to a coloured version of the picture I drew for Petes birthday minus the banner. I always enjoy using my markers, I find colouring so relaxing :) added the background colour after as it all was a bit grey.

Still not got back into crocheting, I dont have the pastel yarn colours I want to finish my new cupcake designs.

Dr Who?

Another small update im afraid. The stray cat I mentioned in the last post, sadly had to be put to sleep. So yeah this week has been rather sucky but i have a couple of drawings to show ya all.

Done for my friend Chris who is a big Dr Who fan :D he was really chuffed with it.

and this one was done for a friends bf, after she saw the one done for Chris.

Im not a fan of Dr Who this is the first fan art I've done of it, not too shabby for my first go i guess.
Two new books, "Hitler's Henchmen-Guido Knopp" same author as the SS book i just read. Really enjoyed it if thats the right thing to say about a book on such awfulness. I also got "Escape and evasion-Ian dear" it's about POW breakouts in WWII.

Bunchie and the Birthday Pete

So my secret project for Pete's birthday was a Bunchie plushie! Im very pleased to say he liked his present :D In fact he was crying with laughter apon opening it hehe, well at least he was surprised!
I hand sewed all of that bad boy and it was only just finished in time because of the toy filling not turning up. Luckily for me the crappy haberdashery in town had a single bag left and i used all of it to fill him.

bunchie1 bunchie2
Bunchie is a llama like creature thats normally seen in a running gif.

I also did a drawing of him riding a Tapir :D

In other news I have finally turned into my Dad ;) I got myself a copy of "The SS: A Warning from History-Guido Knopp" theres no hope for me now hehe. Backstory for thoses who dont know but my dad is ex army and very much into war history. A lot of my childhood was spent walking round army museums and wet muddy fields seeing army shows.

Over the last couple of weeks i've had a lot of new follows, eeee yay! So if/when i reach the big number 50 I will do a blog give away as a thank you. I think It'll be a mini cupcake but i'll do post all about it when the times comes.

Thats all from me and Bunchie for today

3rd Place!!

Crumblin came 3rd in the monster contest in simply plush group on deviantart :D
Suki is helping Crumblin celebrate

And another one because my cat is beautiful :)

I am really pleased as I didnt expect to win at all. I definitely will be entering more contests from now on hehe.

I finished reading "The Communist Manifesto-Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels" last night. I really didnt think Karl Marx would be so flamboyant and even poetic at times. I was expecting something more straight to the point and bold. I would like to read more of his work. Also reminded me that i wanted to read up on the french revolution. Comedian Mark Steels book's are on my next to buy list, i highly reccomend his tv & radio Lectures.

Headache of Doom

This crappy sketch sums up how I feel and have felt for the last few days thanks to a sinus headache that refuses to go away!
Concentrating on drawing or crafting is proving hard, annoying as theres lot of things i want to do.

Also the toy stuffing I ordered for making petes present has not arrived. Not that I've come up with a working pattern yet. I tried today to make a mini test version but I couldnt get it right, im not really sure what do about it. Maybe leave the plushie for christmas so i can have more time to come up with a pattern and quickly make something else for him?

On a happier note i found two books for a pound each in a local charity shop :)
Both from the Penguin Great Ideas collection, "The Communist Manifesto-Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels" and "The Social Contract-Jean-Jacques Rousseau" Im reading the first but to be honest I've found the wording a little hard to understand, i think i need to read one of those idiots guides on it hehe.

yoga and not much else

Trying to be healthy by using my wii board but i need to be careful when it comes to exercise with my illnesses otherwise my body says "nooooooooo!" and i end up bed bound & grumpy!

I was hoping to have more things to show you but my brain isnt in gear this week. I am having real trouble coming up with a pattern for Pete's birthday plushie :( i havent long either as its on the 13th.
Lots of illustration ideas floating around my head, hopefully i'll get a few of them down on paper over the coming weeks.

Unicorn of Wonder

I visited Reading for the first time on Sunday to see one of my best friends Vix & her bf Gaz. He is an amazing artist and does oil painting that i will have to show you all at some point :)
Vix and her unicorn of wonder

Hopefully you recognize her from these pictures:
V&G friends

Picked up two massive books (serious why do they make hard backs so big?!) from the selling table in the library.
Superstrings and the Search for the Theory of Everything-F. David Peat and What remains to be discovered-John Maddox i'll let you know what i think of them if i dont break my arms trying to lift them ;)

Friday, 20 August 2010

Sorry again for lack of updates and commenting again due to not being so well these last couple of weeks. I hope this makes of up it though, Meet my Crumblin crumb monster!

If you find crumbs in the bed it might just be the Crumblin paid you a visit ;)

He is my entry for the monster contest in simply plush group on deviantart.
I've never made anything like this before so it was bit hit and miss thinking up a pattern, but im pleased how he turned out. It was good to finally put a use to my fluorescent pink fur that i've had sitting around for years. sewing fur was a bit tricky to begin with as some of it was caught up in the seams but i'll know better for next time.
notice the lovely polka dot felt? yeah i got to hobbycraft at last and that was part of my hoard hehe.
making this has really wetted my appetite for making more monsters or bigger plushies. I aready have planned what im making for Petes birthday next month but you'll have to wait and see to find out what it is.

what else? been reading a lot still, this months books were,
"Human Brain a Guided Tour-Susan Greenfield" really enjoyed it and would like to read more on the subject.
"Cloud Atlas: A Novel-David Mitchell" I did not like this book at all, shame as i had heard such good things. first off its not a novel, its 6 short stories put together in annoyingly gimmicky way that felt more like he was just showing off his literary skills with different writing styles. The stories themselves didnt capture me and parts felt like they were taken straight from 1984! can you tell im grumpy for having read through all those pages? ;) (sorry if you like the book)
"The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory-Brian Greene" is what i am reading at the moment and absolutely loving it so far. He's going into much better detail in explaining theories than i've found in other books on the same sugject.

mini cupcake

mini cupcake! half the size of my normal crochet cupcakes at just 2inches tall :)
And for size comparison stood next to my normal size cupcakes.
Its been nice to do a bit of crocheting, although one of my fingers is already badly swollen :( Im just putting the finishing touches to a mini lilac cupcake.I think the pattern i've done now could do with a tweaking, a rounder base perhaps. I want to make a little collection of pastel cupcakes and maybe try and do a little display box for them.
I did try last night to make a even smaller one but it just wasnt working, crochet rage!

Tuesday, 3 August 2010

A present for my friend Vix and her bf Gaz, seriously how cool do they look?! hehe.
Im pleased with how this one came out and want to try a coloured version at some point but i think in markers rather than digital.

Feel like Im in a bit of an crafty art block, though to be fair i havent been well enough to make anything. Theres so many things that keep popping into my head that i want to try, but i cant decided on anything. I hoping i'll be more focused after going to hobbycraft & restocking my felt.

wee & friends

Oops a bit slack on updating, i've been busy but still managed to dosome drawings :D
I met up with Kate & Vix on friday for a much needed afternoon of cute fun :)
My friend Vix said i'll be "weeing for Britain!" after all the water I've been drinking to help ease cystitis. This is what came into my head :D yeah im No.1!

ok sorry for the too much info! Im still not feeling well as i think the antibotics for cystits are making me sick, its hard to tell though as it may just be the m.e. So i havent been able to go to hobbycraft yet *cries* im really in the mood for plushie making too. I've been thinking i might do a blog giving away at some point, once ive made something of course :D
